MOUNTBATTEN IN MANILA

CONFERENCES WITH MACARTHUR (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) MANILA, July 19. The Supreme Allied Commander in south-east Asia (Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten) has held a three-day conference with Genen 1 Mac Arthur, the Supreme Commander in the south Pacific, to arrange for complete coordination between their respective commands, says the correspondent of the Associated Press. Admiral Mountbatten and staff also conferred with Admiral ■ T. C. Kinkaid, LieutenantGeneral G. C. Kenney, Major-General E C Whitehead, and LieutenantGeneral R. L. Eichelberger. Admiral Mountbatten arrived in Manila on July 12, and will return to India to-dsy. , Admiral Mountbatten flew direct from Burma in a British York transport aeroplane. Complete secrecy about his visit was •maintained until his return to his headquarters. The commanders had long talks, and staff officers also conferred.
