JAPANESE ATTITUDE TO WAR

(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 19. The Japanese Vice-Minister for the Navy (Takeo Tada) in a speech broadcast by the Tokyo radio said it was regrettable that some Japanese had become discouraged by the real facts Of this fierce war and had become idle, resentful, and resigned to an attitude of aimless, destructive selfinterest and the abandonment and neglect of their duties. The newspaper “Mainichi” said that the Allied attacks against Japan were only a feeble attempt to entice out the Japanese air force, which was at present biding its time for action, in accordance with the High Commands elastic tactics, in preparation for the decisive struggle. According to the Domei News Agency, 1,500,000 school children are being mobilised to reclaim 25,000 acres of land to increase food production.
