— * — Sir Cosmo Parkinson, personal representative of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, visited Christchurch yesterday. After a tour of the city he held discussions on recruitment for the Colonial Service with Professor L. G. Pocock, liaison officer of the service in New Zealand, and Professor A. H. Tocker, rector of Canterbury University College. Sir Cosmo Parkinson will leave for Dunedin this morning. Dr. C. S. M. Hopkirk, who has been in charge of the animal research station, Department of Agriculture, at Wallaceville for many years, has accepted an appointment with UNRRA to work in Europe after shorter periods of duty in Sydney and Washington. Dr. Hopkirk, who was awarded a Doctorate of Veterinary Science by the University of Melbourne in 1934, has had 33 years’ service with the department, and is the author of more than 50 publications dealing with stock diseases in New Zealand. —(P.A.)
