NAVAL PERSONNEL
* PROPOSEp SCHEME FOR RELEASES The Government intended to introduce a scheme soon for the partial demobilisation of long-service personnel from the Royal New Zealand Navy, said the Minister of Defence (the Hori. F. Jones) in a letter read by Mr R. A. Young • at a sitting of the No. 10 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Christchurch yesterday. Mr Young appeared on behalf of W. S. Wright, who sought the release of Richard Talbot Wright from the Navy. The Minister added in his letter that go far no releases had been made wider the proposed scheme. Men who were to be released would have to be the subject of recommendations from appeal boards. Mr Young said that the reservist had been four years in the Navy and had been serving in submarines all the time. He had been on escort duties with Russian convoys and in the . Mediterranean. He was a submarine detector operator. His release was sought because of his mother’s poor health, and because it was desired that he should complete his training as a civil engineer. The board decided to recommend the release of the reservist.
