HEIFER CALF REARING
Sir,—May I say I heartily agree with "Encouragements" letter about heifer calf rearing. There is no encouragement these day 6. On June 20 I sent to be sold at Addington stock market two nice heifers, aged respectively two years and three months and two years and four months. I can guarantee that neither had had a calf. On getting the report from the firm, I find the grader had graded them as cows and they were sold in the fat cattle section. Would the grader kindly enlighten me and many other curious heifer rearers why they were classed as cows? Is this something new? I would like to know from the grader when a heifer is a cow?— Yours, etc., „„ Ym . D. HUNT. Amberley, June 26, 1945. [The manager of the Addington Saleyards says: "It is difficult to know what Mr Hunt is driving at. I should be very pleased if he would contact me and discuss the matter with me."]
