WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION
Styx.—Mrs Donaldson presided at the recent monthly meeting of the Styx branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers'' Union. An interesting talk on the work of the Crippled Children Society was given by Mrs W. Mackay. Competitions resulted as follows;—single bloom; Mesdames Derrett, Southern, and W. Turner; cluster bloom; Mesdames L. Smith, W. Turner, and B. Turner; tumbler: Mesdames B. Turner, C. Smith, .and Palmer; scones: Mesdames Johnston, C. Smith, and W. Turner. Riccarton.—Many gilts of soap to be sent to Britain were handed in at the monthly meeting of the Riccarton branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs R. A. Ambridge presided. Cqat-bangers for "Te Kiteroa" rest home were received, and reports showed that many garments had been knitted for the Navy and the Merchant Navy. More than 140 garments had been made for the General Service Corps. The guest speaker, Mrs Flint, described the work being done in connexion with children’s toys to be sent to Manchester. Competitions resulted as follows:—coat-hangers: Mrs Manhire 1, Mrs McMaster 2, Mrs Peters 3; flowers: Mrs Franks 1, Mrs Manhire 2, Mrs CosgrifF 3.
