VARIATION IN VALUATIONS

SALE OF PROPERTY

An application by Annesley de Renzy Harman and John Henry Davies to sell to John Joseph Smith at £llsO a property which had been bought in 1938 for £4OO came before the Urban Land Sales Committee yesterday. The property included two roods of land, and is situated at 49 Burnside road. “This case demonstrates an extraordinary variation in valuations," said Mr K. G. Archer, chairman of the committee. Indications were that the value in 1938 was between £4OO and £SOO, which was on a par with the Government valuation, said Mr Archer. For death duty purposes the value had been put up to £760, and for land sales purposes the Crown had put it up to £930. Mr Archer said that it appeared that the Crown had treated the property fairly and the sale would be allowed provided the price was reduced to £975.
