Encouraging Sandy’s Comet, a gelding by Sandydale from Warrenpoint, gave an encouraging display at the matinee meeting to finish third to Sir Carol and Lady Ngaio. He is trained at New Brighton by J. W. Fraser for Mr E. A. Williams. Has Some Ability Although he was not placed in the New Brighton Handicap, Sandiford left the impression that he will develop into a useful pacer. He is trained for Mr W. E. Stickings by C. Isaacson at New Brighton, and at his second appearance this year he finished in fine style to act as runnerup to Mine Host in the Longburn Handicap at Manawatu on April 7. He is an acceptor in the Trial Handicap at Ashburton. Interrupted Passage nominator did not appear to get a clear run in the New Brighton Handicap, and he gave-a good showing to finish in fourth place. Dominator appeals as a likely stayer, and over the two miles at Ashburton he must be given a chance. Improving With Age Sand Maid stayed on much better In the Canterbury Park Handicap than she has done in her recent races, and on her latest performance she should soon win a race for V. Albom. Won Well Huntingdon Lass was always well placed in the Canterbury Park Handicap, and over the last two furlongs was too good for her opponents. A five-year-old marc by Jack Potts from Wander Lass, she is owned and trained by F. A. Vessey. of Ashburton, who previously raced Lizzie Woods with some success.
