ROYAL VISIT TO SCOTLAND
KING AND QUEEN IN EDINBURGH (8.0. W.) RUGBY, May 16. Crowds lined Edinburgh streets on the 18-mile route of the Royal drive through the Scottish capital to'-day. The King and Queen had previously visited Edinburgh Castle, where the King nlaced a wreath on the Scottish National \Var Memorial. At the close of the drive Their Majesties went to the Palace of Holyrood House, where they were received bv the Duke of Hamilton, Lord Steward of Scotland. The keys of the city of Edinburgh, resting on a cushion, were presented to the King when, with the Queen and the Princesses, he visited the city for the victory celebrations. The King took the keys, which are a token of the city’s loyalty, and then handed them back to the Lord Provost as a symbol of His Majesty’s confidence in the city's government. This ceremony has not been observed on previous -Visits to Edinburgh. The big 'crowds waiting outside the railway station sent up a continuous roar of cheers as the King inspected a guard of honour from the three services and met Scottish officials.
