BANKS PENINSULA CLUB There was a good attendance at the trials of the Banks Peninsula Collie Club, held at Little River. Harboured Defaulter—The first case of its kind in New Zealand under the detention section ef the National Service Regulations, 1940, was heard before Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., at a special sitting of the Dargaville Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning. William Gordon Simpkin and his wife, Edith Simpkin, were charged that on or about March 27, 1945, at Tokatoka, they harboured Alexander Talbot Johnston, who had escaped from defaulters’ detention, knowing that Johnston had escaped. Simpkin was also charged with employing Johnston between March 27, 1f45 and April 24, 1945. Pleas of guilty were entered to both charges. A fine of £25 was imposed on Simpkin on the harbouring charge. He was convicted and discharged on the count of employing, Edith Simpkin was convicted and discharged.—
