The Prime Minister of Australia (Mr J. Curtin) revealed recently that the Government had made representations to the United Kingdom Government for a special award for service in the Pacific which would be more distinctive than the 1939-43 Star. The issue of the Star to members of the Australian Military Forces who had fought in. the war against Japan had beep deferred temporarily because of these representations. It was intended that Australian troops who had fought in Malaya would receive the same recognition as other members of the Australian Army who had fought in the Pacific. He hoped W make an announcement soon on the issue of the 1939-43 Star. The Government also was making representations on the provisional instructions which excluded R.A.A.F. personnel who had been confined to Great Britain from receiving the Star.
