NAGOYA RAID

ONLY TWO BOMBERS LOST GOOD RESULTS REPORTED WASHINGTON, May 14. Only two of the 500 Superfortresses which attacked Nagoya on Monday were lost, according to an official announcement. Enemy opposition was from weak to moderate and there was practically no anti-aircraft Are. The raid is reported to have been most successful. Bombing was done visually and by instruments. .‘‘Crews returning frbm the raid on Nagoya reported that a 17,000-foot high column of smoke covered Nagoya and the flames were visible 60 miles away,” says a correspondent on Guam, “The attack, which exceeded in weight most of the raids against Germany, was the most concentrated incendiary raid of the Pacific war. It has underlined the official warnings that Japan faced even greater destruction than Germany unless she surrendered.” The Tokyo radio quoted an Imperial communique which stated that many fires were started in Nagoya, but most of them, it was claimed, were extinguished by noon. The radio added that interceptors were still attacking the naval task forces from which 900 carrier aeroplanes have been operating. _
