-—-4- • TUESDAY (Before Mr E. C. Lewey, SM.) MOTORISTS FINED . Harry George Cobum (Mr J. K. Moloney) was .fined £6 on a charge of being Intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. and his licence was suspended until June SO, 1946. He pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate said the weight of evidence was against Cobum. _ - . A man aged 77 years was fined £6 torintoxication In charge of a car and Ms licence was suspended for six months. Publication of hlfi name was prohibited. Mr A. T. Bell said the defendant was not addicted to liquor, but bad unwisely had gin after beer on the first day of the European peace celebration.- Because of an Injury some years ago- he could not walk* except with two sticks, and needed his car to get about. He was a pensioner. DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR Percival Johnston was fined £6 for behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk, to which he pleaded guilty. SeniorSergeant J. Abel said Johnston had spoken to a Woman at 6.45 o.m. on Monday , and asked if he could see her home. When her brother came along defendant went away. Johnston said he had had no Intention of making a nuisance of himself. CHARGE WITHDRAWN _ A charge of proceeding against the red light at the Cashel street intersection against Arthur Charles O’Connell, a tramway motorman, was ■ withdrawn, _at, the suggestion of the Magistrate. 9 .Connell said:the union had waited on the City Council traffic committee, and had been informed that it would be all right for a tram to proceed if the green light was still showing. On the day in question he was driving a one-man car, ana they were rather alow off the mark. The green .light was still showlhg when he advanced, the, controller, and he: did not look to see If the red had gone on by the time the tram actually moved. .. : “We must have some-more definite formula,’’ said the Magistrate. , . No warrant of fitness: Ernest Chitty, Albert Geissler. Roger’ Edward Harding, Thomas Perry and Son. Ltd., Howard Tapper, Samuel Coleman. 10s each. Parking offendes: Thomas A. Klmber, Agnes M. McKie, 10s each. No heavy traffic licence: H. P. Plesse. Ltd,. 10s. . George Keith Ayers was fined 6s for not. having a driver's licence, and Robert, George Corbett was fined £X for aiding and abetting him in this, and 10S for having xio warrant of fitness for . a motorcycle.
