—■ The Rev. W. F. Stent has been appointed a canon by the Bishop of Wellington (the Bt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland). and will be installed during-the session of Synod in July. He is vicar of Masterton. He has been vicar of Manaia, Taihape, Pahautanui, and Greytown.—(P.A.) Sympathy with the relatives Of Mr H, B. S. Johnstone, of Gtaio. who died recently, was expressed at a meeting of the South Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union yesterday. The appointment of Mr Richard Martin as general manager for New Zealand of the Vacuum Oil Company, pty., Ltd., has been announced. Mr Martin joined the'company, 21 years ago in the Hawke’s Bay district, promoted to be sales superintendent in the Wellington province in J928, assist-ant-manager of the Auckland branch in 1931, and successively to be manager of the Wellington and Auckland branches, Mr Martin returned to Wellington in 1939 to fUI the position of assistant-general manager for New Zealand. Wlr W. S. McLean, who has been with the company for 14 years, and who recently returned from a business trip to the United States, will succeed Mr Martin as assistant general manager.
