"WAIT FOR IT"

ENTERTAINING REVUE Thirty New Zealanders chosen throughout the Dominion, for their talent, form the cast of the new Stan Lawson revue “Wait for It, ’ which opened its Christchurch season in the Theatre Royal last evening. The revue was enthusiastically received by an audience, which evidently appreciated an opportunity to see the work of New Zealand performers. The ballet mistress. Rosetta Powell, deserves credit for the original and effective costumes in the ballets, especially the unusual presentation, Way Down South,” in which Lenore Upton’s performance as “My Mammy’ was noteworthy. The colouring and costuming throughout the ballets was striking and showed careful attention to detail. The dancing of Rowena Jackson was well deserving of the applause given by the audience. Most of the credit for comedy work must go to Stan Lawson and Harry Hewlett, who appeared to advantage in Dr. Plumber, M.D., and Father s Dav. Stan Lawson was well received as “The Goddess of Wind,” and the ballet in this item' was effectively presented in mist-grey colouring. Colin Campbell and Maurice Tansley are well known to New Zealand audiences, and their performance last evening was well up to standard. Other soloists who were well received were Joyce Chambers, Lola Bosher, Reta Cook, Lawrie Jones, and Esme Redder. It was noticed, however, in some of the items by the female singers that the orchestral accompaniment tended to drown the singer’s words. The producer and performers deserve credit for the initiative they have shown in presenting this revue with a New Zealand cast, a fact which should make the presentation welcomed by enthusiasts for this type of entertainment throughout the Dominion. _____________
