Ernest Garrett a picture theatre proprietor, was fined £75 .by Mr A. M. Gouldtng. S.M., at the Lower Hutt Magistrate’s Court for the Illegal, purchase of 405 gallons of petrol. . The Magistrate said the defendant's licence had been whittled to nothing, but m spite ol that he bad obtained petrol trom friends. “It is a pity that those friends are not before the Court as' I think they are as blameworthy as the defendant I had considered imprisonment, out on further consideration I think a fine will meet the position ’’ Senior-Detective M Lennan said the defendant had been using petrol at the rate of 29 gallons a month.
