Auckland Gas Supplies Auckland gas consumers are again faced with the prospect of being without gas. A 'restricted service 1 will operate to-day, but it is not expected that it will be possible to continuethe day’s service beyond the evening. The general manager of the Auckland Gas Company, Mr R. Worley, said the men in the retort house had refused to increase the number of charges an hour to the level required with the inferior coal available to meet the demand. “There is sufficient gas-making plant available at the wprks to meet all present demands, and the present difficulties would have been entirely avoided but for the workers in the, horizontal retort house refusing to charge sufficient retorts to produce the gas required,” said Mr Worley. “This state of affairs has been going on for over a week, and every effort has been made to get to grips with the reason underlying the men’s actions, but so far without success.
