DR. MARSDEN’S ADDRESS

Sir, —Dr. Marsden might have urged his hearers to a consideration of means to preserve the peace of the world and to secure to mankind the riteterial benefits which scientists have placed at their disposal; for he mentioned psychology, and psychology has a bearing on human conduct and is a legitimate field for scientific inquiry. Unfortunately, there is no money to be made in such investigations and so, for the sake of gain, men sell their souls to the devil, wipe their mouths and say, “We have done no evil." But this is not enough, even if it were true. The question is, what good has been done? What contribution to peace have scientists made at all comparable to their contribution to the waging of war? But no, we must study ballistics, for the next war, which Dr. Marsden so light heartedly envisages, will be a war of ballistics.— Yours, etc., . „ NOT SATISFIED. April 7. 1945.
