The visitors, nurtibering more than 100, were - accorded a. civic welcome yesterday morning at St. Columba Hajl by the Depiity-Mayor of : Greymouth (Mr P. Blanchfield), ■ . i . The Very Rev. Father J. Long, V.Gv Administrator of St. Patrick’s parish j welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Catho-v lie community. The subject for the debate was' '‘That youth should participate, to a greater extent in the Government'of , the future,” and the judge waS Mr H. T. Bush, of Greymouth, . who also judged the elocution section. Father Long judged the religious section,' and Mr E. L. Kehoe the Impromptu speeches. The ora-, tory competition will be judged by Mr G. G. M. Mitchell. The Hayward Shield and diplomas will be presented to-mor-„ row afternoon. Following were the results of events:— Prepared Debate.—Marlst-Brothers Old Boys, Invercargill (E. Maloney and a; Grace), 175 points, 1; St. Joseph’s, Papanui (M. Young and D. Ashby), 170 points,2; St. Columba, Greymouth (M. G. Kelly and J. P. Gilbert), 166 points. 3. Best Individual Speakers.—B: Maloney (Invercargill), 86 points, 1; E. Ashby (St. Papanui), 78 points, 2; -Miss E. Gdanltz, (St. Younger-Set, Christchurch), 78 points. 3. - Elocution.—Miss M. Hopewell (St. Joseph’s, Papanui). 91 points, 1; L. Phillips (St. Columba. Greymouth); 90 ;polnts. .2; Miss F. Mulrennan (St.. Mary’s, Hokitika), 86 points, 3; Miss E. Kemick' (Newman Society No. 1), 82 /points, 4. Religious Questions.—Miss M. Casey (Riccarton Catholic Debating Club) and Miss B. Sloan (Addington Celtic Club), 66 points (equal) 1; B.
