*. —- N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING THREE RECORDS BROKEN (P.A.) NAPIER, February 25. Auckland annexed both the Lumley Memorial Shield (for women) and the Towers Shield (for the junior championship) at the Dominion athletic championships. Between them, Auckland women contestants scored 47 points against nine each to Canterbury and Otago, while the Auckland Junior representatives gained 52 points to Canterbury’s 40. CANTERBURY SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Recent rain left a moderately heavy track at Rugby Park on Saturday for the Canterbury senior athletic championships. Flood conditions prevented the attendance of the majority of the South Canterbury athletes. The times generally were slow. Air Force won the club championship by a margin of 40 points, their members being especially prominent in field events For this team, A. D. Herman won the shot put, javelin, and discus, and was second in the hammer throw. In the last stages of the mile, J. Oakley (Technical) issued a determined challenge to T. A. Davis (Air Force) and had the crowd on their toes when he beat him narrowly in the best finish of the day. A, K. Cochrane, a sturdy competitor from Crichton Cobbers, ran well to beat his team-mate, K W. Taylor, in the 100 yards, and C. S. Kernahan showed ability to finish a long, fast run with a short and fast sprint, when he beat F. Mair, the pacemaker throughout, in the three miles race 'Abbreviations used in the report are:— A.F. At the Auckland senior track and field championships this afternoon, R. Agate won the 100 yards and 220 yards titles. His time in the 100 yards equalled the New Zealand record of 9 4-ssec. D. M. Harris, the national 440 yards champion, ran second to Agate in both these^events, and won the 440 yards event. N.Z. GIRLS’ MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIPS (PA) WANGANUI, February 25. A crowd of 8000 persons attended the New Zealand girls’ marching champion-, ship- on Saturday evening. The marching championship was won by Hawera Technical School Old Girls, with South Canterbury second. Troubadours (Wanganui) third, and McKenzie’s (Wanganui) fourth Miss N. Guthrie, of McGruer’s (Wanganui) was champion leader. . Wellington Woollen Mills headed the points for costumes. The aggregate in points for marching leader and costumes was won by South Canterbury, with McKenzie’s (Wanganui) second and Troubadours (Wanganui) third.
