FARM WORKERS’ HOUSES
Sir, —With reference to the picture of a house shown in “The Press’’ and quoted at £9BO, I tried exhaustively to get one built by several prominent builders, but was unsuccessful. I also offered £SO compensation money in the event of rising costs on material, etc., but the contractors would not do business.—Yours, etc., DELUDED. October *26, 1944. [The District Building Controller (Mr B. Riley) said yesterday that applications for the farm workers’ houses referred to by the correspondent must be made in the first place to the Christchurch office of the State Advances Corporation, which would deal with the matter.]
