“SMASH-AND-GRAB ” RAID
■ ♦ . THEFT OF JEWELLERY . Assorted jewellery valued about £IOO was stolen in a "smash-and-grab” raid at the shop of Carl Madsen and Son. jewellers and diamond merchants. 672 Colombo street, Christchurch, about 1.25 o’clock yesterday morning. The thieves smashed a heavy plate glass display window on the north side pf the recessed entrance to the shop, which is between Cashel and Lichfield streets. The goods taken included watches, brooches, pendants, and an assortment of other articles. People who heard the crash when the window wjas broken notified the police. Yesterday the broken window was boarded over and the shelves inside cleared of goods left by the thieves.
