INFLATION THREAT IN AMERICA
PRESSURE AT DANGEROUS LEVEE * WASHINGTON. Oct. IS. “The United States has all the makings of inflation and eventual collapse on a far greater scale than occurred after the World War,” said the Price Administrator (Mr Chester Bowles), in a speech. “Inflationary pressure, which is greater than the whole tempo of our economy, has been stepped up to a far higher and potentially more dangerous level. "The answer lies in a wholly new concept of America in which we need the close co-operation of farmers, workers, businessmen, and the Government. “The farmers must prosper If they provide huge markets for manufactured goods, the workers must be assured of high wage levels, and business must prosper. This means that we must encoprage competitive free enterprise in every possible way. “Such a programme calls for k tax policy after the war which encourages the investment or risk of capital and discourages the hoardings of savings by either corporations or individuals.”
