MAORI AFFAIRS
Sir,—l read in “The Press” of October 7 that a conference is"to be held in Wellington to deal with the many grievances of the Maori people of the Dominion, but I should like to know how we who are interested in the Ngai Tshu claim will secure berths on the ferry to enable us to attend. Perhaps the Hon. E. Tirikatene will help us to secure berths, because in invitation to his people to attend a conference which he helped to convene is useless to us if we cannot get berths. If the meeting is to be strictly non-party and non-sectarian, as advertised, he should have no difficulty in arranging ways and means for us to cross to Wellington. The favoured few who will have no difficulty in securing berths is definitely not a true representation of Ngai Tahu.—Yours, etc., NGAI-TAHU. October 11. 1944.
