JOHN MOWBRAY HOWARD TRIPP SCHOLARSHIP
Sir,— Recently in your paper was an announcement that the provision of a scholarship had been made by Mrs Mowbray Howard Tripp, ,of Oran Gorge Station, for “bqys and girls of the Canterbury Province,” etc. In your Saturday’s issue appeared an advertisement that applications are invited for this scholarship, ‘ but only from boys. Could you advise many interested parents, why and by whose authority, Mrs Howard wish, that girls be eligible, is not being carried out?— Yours, etc., INTERESTED. October 10, 1944.
[The Registrar of Canterbury Agricultural College (Mr J. A. Kirkness) said yesterday that applications from girls were not being accepted at present because there, was no accommodation available for them. An essential part of the full time courses at the college was that students should be in residence.]
