MILITARY PENSIONS
Sir,—My neighbours son, a seriously injured returned soldier unable to earn, is paid only 12s a week pension. What gratitude is in this?— Yours, etc., '. SKINDEEP,
September 18. 1944. .[Commenting on this letter, the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) says: “‘Skindeep’ gives very little information on which to base a direct statement in relation to the pension awarded. It seems apparent that the returned serviceman is receiving a disablement award and that, on the medical evidence, the War Pensions Board feels that the grant of 12s weekly is commensurate with the degree of Incapacity arising from service. If the pensioner’s disablement has increased since the pension was reviewed, immediate application should be made for an increase in the award, especially if it is because of the pensionable disability that the serviceman is unable to earn. Application should be made direct through the Registrar of War Pensions of the district, who will be pleased to place the relevant facts before the War .Pensions Board for attention.”]
