MR CHURCHILL’S MESSAGE
GENERAL FREYBERG’S INJURY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.)
(P A.) WELLINGTON, September 21. I’he following message from Mr. Churchill was read in .the House ol Representatives this bvenmg by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. FrflSßr) * “Following the news of General Freyberg’s new injury, I asked tor a special report from General Alexan- - der, which I nbw forward to yon- My •consulting surgeon has seen General Freyberg and reports that his condition is good, and he expects that Gen* eral Freyberg' will be able *0 return to duty in one month. General Frey - berg himself has telegraphed to , say. ■ he is getting on well and expects tq. be back with the division within the medical estimate.”’ ' , / . Mr Fraser said this-was typical ol Mr Churchill’s interest in the,-: New ,■ Zealand Division and in his old friend, ; General Freyberg. ' - V. -' Mr Fraser also read a message from General Freyberg thanfcs for the good wishes forwarded on be- t half of the Parliament and the,people of New Zealand. , He also read to the House a message from General-Sir Oliver Leese, who said that through* out the advance since Mr Fraser waff in Italy the New Zealand Division had: been as prominent as its reputation and quality deserved. General Freyberg had been, as always, a'tower of strength, lion-hearted, bold, and determined, an inspiration to every man in the division. “We are. all grateful to General • Freyberg, his staff, and- the< New Zealand Division, whose name lathe Bth Army never stood higher than to-day. Their people at home may • justly be as proud of their part in this campaign as they were of their previous exploits in Greece, Crete, and the African campaign,” concluded General Leese. _ !
