RANGIORA There was a good yarding of dairy cows at the Ranglora stock sale yesterday. Prices were:— Sheep.—Ewes and lambs, 18s. , Cattle.—Dairy cows, £7 to £l3. Pigs.—Baconers, £4 2s 6d; porkers, 49s 6d to £3 12s 6d; stores, 42s to 475; weaners, 23s to 31s. TINWALD Rates for fat sheep at the fortnightly stock sale at Tinwald yesterday were firm compared with those ruling at last week’s sale at Ashburton. There was a fair average yarding. Miller’s Estate (Lagmhor) topped the fat ewe section with a pen of four at 32s 4d, in addition to receiving up to 35s lOd for a pen of four hoggets. Fat ewes sold at from 21s 3d to 24s Id for light-weights, up to 28s Id for medium quality, and up to 32s 4d for prime quality ewes. Fat hoggets brought from 28s to 32s 4d for light-weights, up to 34s Id for medium quality, and one fat hogget, on account of Miss Joan Thomas (Eiffelton) sold at 39s 6d. From 29s lOd to 31s 4d was obtained for light-weight wethers; up to 34s 4d for medium-weights, and up to 36s lOd for heavy wethers. In the cattle section, two cows sold at £l4 17s 6d and £l3 17s 6d, and one heifer at £7 2s 6d. LORNEVILLE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 19. Two-thirds of the extra large yarding of fat cattle at Lorneville to-day was very good quality, but the remainder was unfinished. In the opening stages values were considerably lower than last week’s, but as the sale progressed there was a definite firming. In the latter half of the sale values were only about 20s lower than last week’s. Prime heavy-weight bullocks made £2O to £2l 15s, prime mediumweight £l7 to £lB 10s, handy-weights £ls 15s to £l6 10s, light-weights £l3 to £l4 10s; prime heavy-weight heifers, £l4 15s to £l6 10s, medium-weight £l2 15s to £l4, light-weights £lO 10s to £ll 15s: prime heavy cows £l4 10s to £l6, good quality £l2 to £l3 10s, medium-weights £lO 10s to £ll 10s, aged and inferior £6 to £B. Slightly more wethers than ewes were forward in the fat sheep section. Except for a few pens, wethers were light and unfinished, but the majority of ewes were extra good quality. Values for better quality wethers and ewes remained firm at last week’s rates, but prices for medium and unfinished sorts were considerably easier. Prime heavy wethers realised 42s to 465, prime quality medium-weight 38s to 40s 6d, light-weights 34s to 35s 6d. unfinished 29s 6d to 325; extra good quality ewes 35s 6d to 37s 9d; prime quality ewes 32s to 33s 6d, medium 27s 6d to 29s 6d. unfinished 23s to 255, inferior 15s to 18s.
