COMMUNIQUE
(Rec. 1.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 18. To-day's communique from Supreme Allied Headquarters says:— "Allied air-borne troops landed in Holland yesterday after powerful air operations •in which our air forces operated in very great strength. "First reports show that the operation is going well. . "Our ground forces near the Bel-gian-Dutch frontier are continuing to make progress. "Further south we mopped up pockets of resistance on the outskirts of Aachen. Heavy fighting continues in the town. • "Elements pushing east of Aachen are encountering determined resistance. , , j„ "Advances have also been made across the Luxemburg-German fron- ' tier "Our troops in the Moselle valley are clearing isolated enemy groups from the area west of the river. Progress has been made north of Nancy and enemy counter-attacks near Pont-a-Mousson have been repulsed. . "The Germans are fighting hara in the Belfort Gap. Our troops have occupied the town of St. Loup (30 miles north-west of Belfort) and have cleared the enemy from the Lure The enemy north of Lure used tanks to resist our advances. Local engagements have occurred in the area of Pont de Rome UO miles south of Belfort) "In the High Alps we have driven several miles up the Maufienne valley after capturing Modane, and have reached Lanslebourg (10 miles north-east of Modane) after stiff fighting."
