HIGH-PRESSURE WATER SYSTEM
Inter-Connexion With City SCHEME REJECTED BY RICCARTON COUNCIL A decision, to inform the Christchurch City Council that its suggested agreement concerning the inter-con-nexion of the borough's proposed highpressure water system with that of the city was not acceptable was made at a meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last evening. The council agreed that its own plans for the_ provision of high-pressure water should be proceeded with, and negotiations made to procure the necessary equipment. , . .. It was agreed also to inform tne City Council that its proposals were considered to be ektreinely harsh, and the charges against the borough excessive, and that the decision to proceed with the borough .council’s own scheme was in the better interests of the ratepayers. Discussion on the City Council’s proposals was taken in committee. , On the recommendation in the report of the works and town hall committee the council agreed to the Christchurch City Council’s suggestion ultimately to provide improved water supply to residences in Clarence street south, provided two additional houses were connected immediately by the City Council in th# street. The council agreed to the striking of an additional rate on the rateable value of the borough limited to l-40d in the £ on the capital value to provide necessary finance for the maintenance 0 f the Canterbury Museum. It was decided to protest to the Government against the delay in obtaining import licences for essential electrical equipment. It was also agreed to support the Timaru Borough Council’s remit to the Electric Power Boards’ gnd Supply Authorities’ Association urging the Government to revise bulk supply charges.
