OBITUARY
♦ MR H. G. DEAL Bom in Christchurch in 1863, Mr Henry George Deal died in Christchurch lest week. For many years he was in business in Leeston and bt. Albans, and later left for North Otago, where he took up sheepiarnung R* Otekaike. Later he entered into business in Oamaru, where he took an active part in local body, church, and bowling activities. For two years he was president of the Phoenix Bowl\ng Club. For some years he lived in retirement in Christchurch. . Mr Deal was the oldest living member of Lodge Concord, and rose to Grand Sword Bearer of New Zealand in 1916, and Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Otago in 1921. Mr Deal married Miss Roseline Dale, younger daughter of Mr William Dale, of Ferrymead, Heathcote. He is survived by his widow, two sons, and a daughter’ MR G. F. HALL The death has occurred of Mr George Francis Hall, of Hataitai, in his sixtysecond year. He was born in Woodville, and as a young man was for some years in the Railways Department. He went to England, and in London he was for a time on the clerical staff of the Hampstead Borough Council. On the outbreak of war in 1939 he joined the staff of the High Commissioner for New Zealand. In 1940 he returned'to New Zealand and was for a time on the staff of the Housing Construction Department. He was the only son of the late Mr Charles Hall, who represented Waipawa in Parliament for 15 years during the Seddon regime. MR G. W. HUNGERFORD • Mr George -Willoughby Hungerford, who died in Christchurch last week at the age of 86 years, was born in India. He was educated at Wellington College. England, and on his return to India served with the firm of Jardine, Skinner and Company, shipowners and bankers. He later went to the United States, and 50 years ago came to Canterbury, where he has since lived. After serving a period as agent for Pyne and Company, Ltd., he took up farming at Cheviot, and later in South Canterbury. On his return to Christchurch he became secretary of the Early Settlers’ Association. Mr Hungerford is survived by two daughters. Gladys and Mairie. and one son, Mr Tudor Hungerford, all living In Canterbury.
