DAIRY PRODUCE AND MEAT
N.Z. SUPPLIES TO BRITAIN LONG TERM CONTRACTS OFFERED (P.A.) WELLINGTON,’ June 9. Long-term contracts to ensure the largest possible supplies, of meat and dairy produce to Great Britain, and to enable New Zealand primary producers to plan their farming operations in advance, have been proposed to the New Zealand Government by the United Kingdom Government, the Act-ing-Prime Minister (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said to-day. “Mr Fraser is returning to England from the Middle East to take part in negotiations concerning these contracts, and he will be assisted there by Mr B. C. Ashwin, Secretary to the Treasury. and Mr G, A. Duncan, Director of the Export Division of the Marketing Department. ‘‘The United Kingdom Government’s proposal is that it shall purchase all supplies of meat and dairy produce available for export from New Zealand up to the end of June, 1948. The New Zealand Government has already discussed this with the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and the New Zealand Dairy Board, which have agreed to the general principle of longterm contracts, Consultations and discussions are oroceeding with producers’ organisations,”
