RECORD COLLECTION OF RATES EXCESS OF RECEIPTS OVER PAYMENTS According to a report presented by the county clerk (Mr G. S. Cowper) at a meeting of the Waimairi County Council last evening, receipts by the council during the year ended March 31, 1944, amounted to £115,419 3s lOd. Payments for the same period totalled £110,224 19s lOd, leaving an excess of receipts over payments of £5194 4s. , Mr Cowper reported that on March 31, 1944, the council had a credit of £39,725 16s 5d in the bank, together with £SOOO on fixed deposit, and £7OOO invested in securities—a total of £51,725 16s sd. , . . Details of permits issued and the value of the work which they represented in the various ridings of the county were as follows: —Fendalton, 12, £13,028; Styx, 3. £1550; Avon, 3, £1390; Wairarapa. 4, £1192; Middleton, 4. £4130: Belfast. 2, £1180: Marshland. 2, £1354; Papanui. 2, £336. Licence fees were collected by the council as follows:—road opening, £3B 10s;*buildine. £sl; butchers. £2; conditional, £2O; cake kitchen. ss: hairdresser. 10s: ice cream, £1: offensive trades. £9; septic tank, £2; total. £124 ss.
