NAVAL AUXILIARY PATROL Formed two years ago. just after entry of Japan into the war, the Lyttelton Auxiliary Naval Patrol is now disbanded. The patrol consisted of several large motor-cruisers and fishing launches and was manned by fishermen and yachtsmen, under the command of LieutenantCommander H. A. Rhind. Units of the patrol performed watch duty nightly on the harbour during the early months of its existence. , „ , . , On Saturday afternoon the final patrol was held when a trip was made to Purau. where a parade was held. Commander T. S. Critchlev. R.N.Z.N.. naval officer in charge at Lvttelton. thanked the officers and ratings‘.for their services, and said that thcv had performed an Important and useful task in patrolling the entrance to the port. Lieutenant-Commander Rhind also addressed the men. Former Golf Champion’s Death.— The death has occurred of Alexander Herd, aged 75. the former British golf champion. James Braid, aged 74. now becomes the game's “Grand Old Man. London. February 18. _
