OBITUARY

DR. J. H. REID Dr. James Harper Reid, one of the oldest medical practitioners in Wanganui, died recently in his seventy-fifth year. He was born in New Zealand, was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School, and graduated from the medical school of Otago University. His first years in practice were spent on the West Coast in the South Island, and later he travelled extensively in England and on the Continent. Going to Wanganui about 1901, Dr. Reid'began practice in Wicksteed street and became a well-known figure in the town and suburbs. For many years he was on the honorary staff of the Wanganui Public Hospital. He had been retired for some years. Dr. Reid is survived by his wife and one son.

MR J. y. BRYANT The death occurred in Hamilton recently of Mr John Vickery Bryant, a well-known Waikato pioneer, at the age of 90 years. Mr Bryant was born in England, in the parish of Clayhanger, Devonshire, on June 3, 1853. Mr Bryant was one of the directors of the original New Zealand Dairy Company and served on the directorate for a number of years. MR NORMAN HEATH (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 7. The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr Norman Heath, Consul for Latvia. probably one of the best known travellers in the Dominion.
