OBITUARY

MR HENRY COTTERILL The death occurred in Christchurch yesterday ol Mr Henry Gotterfll. senior partner of the firm of Duncan, Cotterill and Company, solicitors* Christchurch. Ser, with whom was associated Sir oshua Williams. He joined Mf T. S. Duncan in 1879, and in the course of his career was associated with the Hon. J. C. Martin and the Hon. Sir Walter Stringer (Judges -of the Supreme Court), Mr J. T.' Hall, Mr H. J. Beswick, Mr W.. J, Sim, K.C., Mr A. P. Wright, and Mr P. C. Wynn Williams, the last-named two, members of the present firm. Mr Cotterill was a member of the Board of Governors of Christ’s College from 1896 until September of the preset year, being sub-warden for the last six years. He was*also a Fellow of the college. He was a life member of the Christchurch Hunt Club, and was a regular follower of hounds for many years. Mr Cotterill was a keen, footballer and cricketer, and while a pupil at Christ’s College he captained both the first fifteen and the first eleven. He played cricket for Canterbury against Auckland in 1873 and against Wellington in 1884, He also represented Canterbury at Rugby football against Auckland in 1875. . .. Mr Cotterill is survived by his widow, two sonß, and a daughter.

Holiday Week-ends.—The Auckland Drapers’- and Allied Retailers’ Association, at a meeting yesterday morning, unanimously resolved to remain closed on the Tuesday after both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Under the arrangements proposed, many Aucklahd shop assistants will have four clear days’;holiday at both the Christmas and New Year week-ends.—(P.A.)
