BUTTER
Sir,—Can you tell me if the men of the N.Z. Forestry Unit when in England received more than 2oz of butter a week, plus 4oz of margarine and 2oz of lard or dripping. If they did not receive more and did their work in a competent manner, and in a more severe climate than ours, why cannot the New Zealand sawmillers do the same on ilb butter a week?— Yours, etc., CITIZEN. November 18, 1943. Thj Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, writes as follows: "From the . information ■at my disposal 1 understand that the issue scale in force for home defence troops in the United ■ Kingdom as at Anr il 28 last was: butter. Joz daily; margarine, loz daily: in addition, 2oz of dripping or lard weekly when boneless frozen meat was issued. There is no information available regarding any recent alteration to the above approved scale.”
