The monthly meeting of the Papanui Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary was held recently in the church parlour. Mrs Baynes presided over a good attendance of members and friends. Mrs Hallam gave a report on a recent Dominion conference held in Auckland, and was thanked for her address. A bring and buy stall did brisk business. To take the place of men at present carrying out repair duties on communications in New Zealand, 32 W.A.A.C.’s from signal units throughout the Dominion recently underwent a three months’ course on the maintenance of signals equipment at Trentham. The course was similar to that given in the British Army to the same operators. The seventy-third anniversary of the opening of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Sunday school was commemorated last Sunday, when special services were held. Mr G. M. Martin conducted the choir and Miss G. B. Hooper played 1 the organ. The preachers for the day were the Revs. D. D. Maclachlan, L. J. Boulton Smith, and Pastor G. Munro. Mrs J. H. Selby (Aylesbury), who is to make her home in Christchurch, recently received a presentation from members of the Malvern branch of the Plunket Society with which she has been associated since 1920. The president (Mrs John Deans) presented Mrs Selby with a table lamp and spoke of the good work she had done for the society. PLUNKET SOCIETY

CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH Mrs Cecil Wood presided over the monthly meeting of the Plunket Society. There was a large attendance, including representatives from country branches. Mrs F. W. Seldon was appointed to the committee Mrs A H Weir was appointed to organise the food demonstrations connected with "Health Week’’ to be held in Christchurch In February. Donations towards the Karitane Hospital were received from the Ashburton branch. Rangiora branch, and Riccarton and Culverden sub-branches. For the Plunket rooms, Nurse Garland reported as follows:—pre-natal Section: new cases 26, number of visits to rooms 236, cases under observation 130. Postnatal section: new baby cases, city and suburbs 229. out-stations 34. Visits to homes: central and suburbs 615, outstations 125. Visits to rooms: central, 1265 adults, 811 babies: suburban, 1863 adults, 1771 babies; out-stations, 359 adults, 312 babies. Pre-school children: number of visits.to rooms, central 218, suburban 90, out-stations 78. Pre-school children examined by school medical officer, 61. Babies under supervision: 2693, Preschool children under supervision 3562. For the Lady King Karitane Hospital, the matron (Miss Gibbs) reported that 23 babies had been admitted and 22 discharged. Fourteen mothers were admitted to the mothercraft section and 14 discharged Groups of school girls from the Christchurch West High School, the Christchurch Technical College and St Margaret’s College, visited the hospital and were given bathing demonstrations, Sources of admission were: Hororata, Hinds, Culverden, Ashburton, Temuka, Christchurch and suburbs. , A welcome gift of eggs had been received from the Oxford sub-branch.

GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS W. THOMAS Mr and Mrs W. Thomas celebrated their golden wedding at Taumarunul recently Mr Thomas, who has had 53 years of active journalism, was managing editor of the “Geraldine Guardian” for 25 years until 1908, when he left with his family for England and America. In 1915 Mr Thomas purchased the “Taumarunui Press,” with which he has. been actively engaged for the last 27 years.

Mr and Mrs Thomas were married at Geraldine on November 2, 1893. Mrs Thomas is the daughter of the late Mr Robert Morrison, who 70 years ago established the firm of Morrison Bros, in Geraldine. Her mother has been a resident of Dunedin for 75 years, and at the age of 94 is still in good health.

The engagement is announced of Audrey Lorna. fourth 'daughter of Mr and Mrs R, A. Ambridge, “Oha-Atua,” Puriri street, Riccarton, to Flight Lieutenant George Robert, only son of Mrs E. M. Brabyn, New Plymouth.
