FORESTRY UNIT MEN

o— SOUTH ISLANDERS MET AT CHRISTCHURCH More than 120 South Island members of the forestry unit of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. arrived at Christchurch yesterday morning, concluding a journey of little more than five weeks from England, where they have been stationed since the early months of the war They were met at the Christchurch railway station by relatives and friends and representatives of the Christchurch reception committee, Mr E. H. Andrews (Mayor), Mr E. F. Willcox. and Mr H. S. Feast. The Christchurch men dispersed immediately to their homes, and those from the southern part of the island and the West Coast left by the respective expresses after breakfast. Briefly extending a welcome home to the men, Mr Andrews said that New Zealanders were justly proud of the reputation earned by the forestry unit, which had been made up of men with special qualifications to carry out a most important job. A nephew of Mr Andrews, Sergeant J. E, McQuarters. of Ashburton, was in the draft, and both were equally surprised when they met on the station.
