SOLDIER ARTIST KILLED IN ACTION
PICTURE EXHIBITED AFTER DEATH From Our Own Correspondent SYDNEY, September 15. Among those reported killed in action in this week’s New South wales casualty list was Sapper Toro Morgan, of Sydney, whose- picture recently topped a public ballot in an exhibition in Sydney by Australian and United States servicemen from New Guinea. Morgan was killed on August 19, a week before the exhibition opened. His pastel of a Papuan native, helping to carry a wounded soldier on a stretcher, received 5181 more than his nearest competitor. Morgan, who was aged 33, served in the Middle East with the 9th Division, but was sent back to Australia before the battle of Alamein to specialise in camouflage. He drew his picture, “No. 1 Fella Boy,” while in hospital in New Guinea with wounds. Morgan’s wife said that her husband bad had no leave for more, than a year and she. was expecting _him home when she was notified of his death.
