ACCIDENTS

AIRMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED

• Flight Sergeant H. A. Boniface, a station warrant officer attached to, the Air Force, was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital about 7.30 o’clock last evening suffering from serious injuries to the back received when he was knocked down by a car outside the Ashburton Railway Station. His condition late last evening was reported to be critical. The car, driven by Mrs C. Hanson. Tancred street, Ashburton, was travelling north along East street, and Flight Sergeant Boniface was crossing the street towards the station when the accident occurred. His home is in Gisborne.

BODY FOUND IN RIVER The body of Miss Mabel Wills, a retired school teacher, was found in the Heathcote river on Friday night. She lived at 98 St. Martins road, and had been missing from her home since early on Friday morning. An inquest opened before the Coroner (Mr E. C. Levvey) at the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given by the Rev. J. F. Feron.

FATAL FALL FROM SCAFFOLDING

An inquest was opened before the Coroner. Mr E. C. Levvey, on Saturday into the death of Leonard Henry Columbus, who died on his way to hospital after a fall from scaffolding at H C. Urlwin’s factory. Columbus, a carpenter, employed by W. H. Beanland, was 52 years old, and resided at 7 Dearsley street. A post-mortem examination was ordered and the inquest was adjourned sine die.

FALL FROM TRAM

Allan Brown, aged 43 years, of Bell’s Boardinghouse, Moorhouse avenue, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital on Saturday evening. He suffered head injuries when he fell from a tram at the corner of Colombo and Devon streets. His present condition is satisfactory.

MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED

When he fell from a tram in Cashel street early on Saturday evening, Nadge Dunn, aged 45 years, of 518 Cashel street, suffered severe head injuries. He wss admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where bis condition was imported last night- to be serious.
