RATIONING IN NEW ZEALAND

MR FRASER’S COMMENT

“I have no patience with that sort of thing,” said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) in an address at Christchurch last evening when discussing complaints made by people because they could not get an egg every morning or because this little thing or that little thing was in short supply. He said New Zealand had really suffered very little from the war, except through the service of her men overseas.

The Prime Minister said anyone stirring up complaints about such matters was doing fifth column work and something detrimental to the war effort. The Government would do everything it could to keep down the cost of living and had succeeded better than the Government of any other country. “We may be asked to do with less of certain commodities.” said the Prime Minister. “If we are I hope to goodness that the people of New Zealand will show the same spirit of sacrifice they have already shown in trying to achieve success for our cause and , to help the people of Britain.”
