Books Issued To Servicemen.—The director of the Country Library Service in a report to the National Patriotic Fund Board, states that in the first six months of this year 40,172 books were issued to Army, Navy and Air Force units in New Zealand, and 11,045 to the forces overseas.—(P.A.) Juror Fined.—When Claude Whitney Evans, an accountant, failed to appear when his name was called from the jury list at the Supreme Court in Christclvurcn yesterday, he was fined £2 by Mr Justice Northcroft. Evans later appeared, and explained that he had “completely forgotten" the summons. The Judge then reduced the fined to £X.
