WIDOWS’ PENSIONS
j Sir. —As I read lately, it is proposed to grant a pension of £3 a week to soldiers’ widows without children. Any widow who has lost her husband by accident or sickness is in as much need and feels the same sorrow as the soldier’s widow. Depleted in income and weakened in health she must carry on whethei she has children -wholly depending on her or only partially earning their own keep. Why is there still to be no adequate recognition of this liability of a civilian widow’s family?— Yours, etc., , • TOCSIN. July 23, 1943. [This letter was referred to the Minister in charge of Social Security (the Hon, W. E. Parry), who, replying for the Minister of Defence, said: “In view of the nature of the subject raised I do not desire to make any comments.”]
