ELLESMERE SOLDIERS HONOURED
Opportunity was taken recently to entertain a number of soldiers at social functions held in the Ellesmere district. At Southbridge, a large gathering assembled for a dance in the Town Hall. The guests of honour were Privates M. D. Croat, G. Montgomery, A. Hamilton, and V. A. Thompson. Gifts from the residents were presented by Mr T. J. Carter and a presentation from the football club was made to Private Hamilton by the president, Mr L. R. Ebert. Mr D. T. Paterson spoke on behalf of the Returned Services’ Association.
Gunner W. O. Tail was the guest of honour at a social at JCillinchy. Mr J. E. Millar made a presentation from the residents, and Mr O. H. lies spoke for the R.S.A. The Leeston Town Hall was crowded for a similar function, when Mr J. Purser, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, presented gifts to Sergeant J. A. Scott, Driver S. Pearce, and Private P. Edgington, Good wishes were conveyed by the Rev. L. McMaster and by Mr H. D. Jones for the R.S.A. A welcome was also given to Mr H. D. Baylis, who has returned from service overseas.
