TRINTY DRAWS WITH SELWYN Trinity put up a hard fight to play a drawn game with Selwyn, which staved off defeat in ai last-minute raid that enabled Deakin to equalise the scores. Both teams were at full strength, and tho game was fast and even throughout. Trinity opened the score three parts through the first spell, but Selwyn scored twice In quick succession a few minutes before half-time. Trinity drew level midway through the second half, and in the closing stages gained the lead. A last-minute rush enabled Selwyn to make tlie score 3-all, and Selwyn failed to win for the first time this season. UNIVERSITY A V. TECHNICAL After having the better of the first spell, which ended wtih scores even, Technical went to pieces in the second hall and were beaten by University A by 5 goals to 2. T. Egglcton was absent from the University team and C. Rogers strained a leg in the first half, and was replaced by G. Bowden in the Technical team. The first half was played at a lively pace. Leney (Technical) was the first to' score and University equalised a few minutes before half-time, when Johnson registered. The second spell was all in University’s favour, and Mann scored twice shortly after resuming play. Leney reduced the lead with a smart run, but clever play by Mann and Johnson resulted in two more goals bglng registered for University. The final score was: University 5, Technical 2. SYDENHAM v. UNIVERSITY B On a rough, heavy ground, Sydenham beat University B by 8 goals to 0. The uneven and heavy ground made good hockey impossible, but Sydenham lost many chances through failing to adapt their play to University’s formation. H. Small opened Sydenham’s score with a brilliant back-hand shot and repeated the performance shortly before half-time, and after Kilday had scored from a corner. Half-time came with the score Sydenham 3, University 80. Sydenham played better hockey in the second spell and their goalkeeper rarely saw the ball. With the exception of a few brief raids in which Grant, Kendon and Douglas were prominent, the game was confined to University’s territory, and goals were registered by Luke, Small, Kilday, and Denscm, whilst another goal was awarded for an infringement in a penalty bully, and the final score was; Sydenham 8, University B 0.
