GIANT LANCASTER BOMBER
ARRIVAL TO-MORROW VISIT TO SOUTH ISLAM) TOWNS The giant four-engined Lancaster bomber, which is to tour New Zealand, is expected to arrive from Australia today. It will land at Wigram at 3.15 p.m. to-morrow from Woodbourne, and will leave at 9 o'clock on Sunday morning to visit other parts of the South Island. The authorities regret that it wilt not be possible to admit the general public to Wigram, Relatives of Air Force personnel serving overseas, however. will be admitted to the station on the production of satisfactory evidence of identity and relationship. The Lancaster’s itinerary has been arranged to provide for stops at Ohakea, in the North Island. Woodbourne, Wigram. and Whenuapai. Many other towns will be flown over during the three days of the tour. The aircraft will leave Ohakca on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock and fly over Taranaki, the King Country, Manawatu, and the Wairarapa before going over Wellington on its way to Woodbourne, where it is due at 2 p.m. It will fly direct from there to Christchurch. On Sunday it is expected that the Lancaster will be over South Island towns at the following times:—Ashburton, 9.20 a.m,; Timaru. 9.35 a.rn.; Oamaru, 9.50 a.m.; Dunedin, 10.8 a.m,; Invercargill, 10.54 a.m.; Lumsdcn, 10.19 a.m.; Queenstown, 11.35 a.m.; Hokitika, 12.48 p.m,; Greymouth, 1 p.m.; Westport, 1.22 p.m.; Nelson, 1.5(1 p.m. In the event of low cloud the Lancaster may have to miss Lumsdon and Queenstown and follow the coast route. This will put back times of arrival at Hokitika Greymouth. Westport, and Nelson by as much as 40 minutes. The aircraft will reach Ohakea on Sunday at 2.45 p.m. On Monday the Lancaster will cove Hawke’s Bay and the lower half c the Auckland Province, reaching Whenuapai at 12.13 p.m.
