DAIRY INDUSTRY AWARD
AUSTRALIAN WAGES AND CONDITIONS (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, June 10. Award wages and conditions for the Australian dairying industry have been decided upon and will be introduced shortly. The wages will be from £4 16s a week for milking shed hands, to £6 Is a week for leading hands. The minimum rate for women employees will be two-thirds of the male rate. Rates for juniors will be from 35s to £4 a week for youths under 20. and from 35s to 53s for girls Employers will be allowed to deduct 25s a week for keep for male workers, £1 for youths, and 16s for Overtime will be paid for hours m excess of 56 in any one week. Each employee is to be entitled to 14 days’ leave for each year of service and time off at the rate of one full day each month. USE OF GAS BY AXIS BERLIN RADIO DENIES INTENTION LONDON, June 9. “The Axis repudiates Roosevelt’s statement that it contemplates using gas,” said the Berlin radio. It added that Mr Roosevelt’s threat to carry out reprisals “brings to mind the fact that the Anglo-Saxons always aim at creating an alibi for using weapons which are barred by international agreements.”
