Jones), whose stay in Britain is drawing to a close, met the Queen at an Allied Nations summer fair for the Red Cross. Her Majesty said she had heard that Mr Jones had recently returned from North Africa and she asked several questions about his tour. Her Majesty also talked with the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Mr W. J. Jordan), and Mrs Jordan. Many New Zealanders assisted at the British Commonwealth stall. Mr Jones recently met the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr C. R. Attlee), the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr A. V. Alexander), Air Vice-Marshal R. A. Cochrane, Lord Bledisloe, Lady Jellicoe. Air Marshal Sir Arthur Longmore, and Lady Willingdon. “HITLER RECALLING U-BOATS” AID IN DEFENCE OF EUROPE (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, June 10. Hitler is already recalling U-boats from the Atlantic to defend his “European fortress” against invasion, says the naval correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” There is evidence that far fewer U-boat packs are operating against our convoys, he adds. U-boats are being concentrated at strategic points, including French coast bases such as La Pallice and Lorient, and also at Trondheim, in Norway.
