ANCILLARY USERS
NO POOLING OF TRUCKS AT PRESENT LICENSING AUTHORITY’S INTENTIONS Though power to do so was given under the regulations, he did not at present intend to pool trucks, said the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr T. H. Langford) in giving an explanation of regulations affecting ancillary users at a sitting which concluded in Christchurch yesterday. The exigencies of the war demanded control of all forms of transport, he said. With that control limitation of operation could be effected rapidly, coordination of industrial groups brought about, and fuel and tyres directed to the most necessary services. Power was given to pool trucks available as occasion demanded. He did not intend to do that at the moment, but if the war supply situation deteriorated licences being issued would be reviewed immediately, and the operation of vehicles would then largely be on an industrial community basis and not an individual one. Reply to Fanners “I notice that some farmers’ organisations have complained about the possible restrictions that may be placed on their members,” Mr Langford said, "and I desire to assure them that the regulations and the actions of the licensing authorities aim to be helpful to the producing sections of the country and to see that the supply of transport necessities is directed to the right channels. “Representation on the goods transport control committees is to be given to the farming interests, and they seem to be dissatisfied with the extent of it. But if they consider that any committee deals unfairly with'a particular individual or section of the community, right of appeal to the appropriate licensing authority is provided in the regulations.”
